ECO Career Day (March 24, 2007) Through hands-on WORKSHOPS and by meeting professionals in the field, learn about the wide range of ENVIRONMENTAL fields available in the URBAN and NATURAL environment. Get a jump on SUMMER educational, VOLUNTEER, and JOB opportunities at the resource fair with dozens of local organizations.FREE event including lunch and giveaways. UPDATE: ECO Career Day 2007 was amazing. Many enthusiastic paticipants came to the center to participate in this high school event. I-YEL alumni even came by to help with the vocation rotation, and some were even presenters! The day started off with a "Deal or No Deal" parody put on by our very own interns! Then, the participants broke up into their groups and went to their assigned presenter's station. Lunch that day was brought to us by Nextcourse, a company that specializes in organic and healthy foods. After the great day, everything ended with the center's job fair, an innovative event that provides all of the high school youth present with information on other groups and jobs that they might be interested in.Overall? ECO Career Day 2007 was a big success!
Youth Quest 2007(March 3rd- 4th 2007) Each spring, the Headlands Institute hosts a weekend-long environmental youth conference in the Marin Headlands, just north of San Francisco. High school students from all over the Bay Area come to the coast to participate in and lead workshops about current environmental issues that are affecting their communities. Youth Quest participants also help out the Marin Headlands environment as well by pitching in and helping out with stewardship projects around the park. UPDATE: Youth Quest 2007 was a huge hit! This year's I-YEL team created a mock Tri-Yel (like trial), called Global WARNing for their presentation. In the Tri-Yel, the participants were split into two teams- Take Action! and Let It Burn! (For or Against stopping global warming). After learning their roles, participants then had to act like they were in a courtroom and try to win the case! I-YEL members acted as lawyers who were able to cross-examine whoever was at the stand. In the end, the Take Action team won, and everyone was safe from Global Warming.
