Bay Area Environmental Youth Quest 2002, 2003

On March 16th and 17th, 2002 I-YEL (Inspiring-Young Emerging Leaders) lead a workshop called " Global Conflict and Your Local Environment" at the Marin Headlands' Institute. In this interactive workshop, I-YEL interns examined current environmental issues linked to September 11th such as wildlife protection, energy dependence, nuclear testing, and human health. Workshop participants watched an I-YEL produced video that brought home the issues by looking at local contamination of Bayview Hunter's Point Naval Shipyard and nuclear testing at the Lawrence Livermore Lab. We shared reactions and thoughts and discuss what you can do to ensure your voices and opinions are heard.

In 2003, I-YEL also led another workshop called "Project Planning."

Youth Quest Summary

The Bay Area Environmental Youth Quest strives to bring teens together to learn about pressing environmental issues and how we can work together to creatively solve them. Through exciting workshops, service projects and a beautiful setting, the summit fosters a community of respect and innovation where ideas can be born and support can be gathered. The workshops provide in depth information about current environmental topics, both local and global. They also create a forum for questions and brainstorm, with the potential to result in action plans for individuals and schools. This summit is about providing and creating tools for change. You should leave the conference with ideas for small and large charges that YOU can implement in your daily life and in your school.

The Bay Area Environmental Youth Quest also strives to foster a sense on unity and respect. Through the activities youth from different organizations and schools will have opportunities to share ideas, listen, and understand others. If we grasp our collective power and creative potential, the environment and our communities will be better off. Change begins with us. It is an honor to have so many inspiring youth groups together in one place. Together, may we take a step towards a cleaner, brighter, and more respectful tomorrow.
